Biathlete Iryna Varvynets is named Ukraine’s ‘Best Athlete’ in February

Ukraine National Olympic Committee named biathlete Iryna Varvynets as nation’s ‘Best Athlete’ in February 2015. Iryna’s coach Mykola Zots was named as ‘Best Coach’.

NOC's experts acknowledged the achievements of young female biathlete at the IBU Open European Championships at Otepaa, Estonia, where Iryna won silver medal in 10 km pursuit. She later added another medal to her tally helping her team mates Yulia Dzhyma, Natalia Burdyga and Valentina Semerenko to win 4x6 km relay.

Later in February Varvynets continued her success in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, by winning bronze in mixed relay at the World Cup 7.

It was an inaugural 'Best Athlete' award for Iryna Varvynets but not for Ukraine's biathlon team. Two previous awards – December's and January's 'Best Athlete' – went to Iryna's team mates – Valja Semerenko and Serhiy Semenov respectively.
