Sergey Bubka will inspect Olympic Lausanne

The President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Member of the IOC Executive Board, the Olympic champion Sergey Bubka was appointed as a member of the IOC Coordination Commission, which will assist in preparations of the third Winter Youth Olympic Games to be held in Lausanne (Switzerland) in 2020.

The relevant decision, which was adopted by the International Olympic Committee headed by its President Thomas Bach, is the evidence of high authority and important role of Ukrainian Olympism and its leader.

The group of international experts includes a number of sports managers who will be engaged in monitoring the process of preparing for the Games, as well as interaction with the Organizing Committee and its various units.

Earlier, Sergey Bubka chaired the relevant Commission on preparation for the first ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, was a member of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad – Beijing 2008 and now is a member of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXXI Olympiad – Rio 2016.

"It is a great honour and responsibility. Despite the experience that I have in such commissions, every time it is a new challenge and important mission that has to be fulfilled effectively. I am confident that together we will manage to do everything possible to make the Olympic Games a real festival and unforgettable event for young athletes and sport supporters from around the world,"- Sergey Bubka said.

The first meeting of the Commission will take place in October 2016.

In 2007 the International Olympic Committee took the historic decision to launch Summer and Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the events which combine sport, culture and education.

Athletes aged 14 - 18 from all over the world participate in these major competitions, which are held every four years.

The main purpose of the YOG is to involve youth to sports and the Olympic movement, to select young talents to take part in future Olympics.

The first Summer YOG took place in Singapore in 2010, and the first Winter ones - in Innsbruck in 2012.
