Sergey Bubka: "Honored to present historical Olympic Awards”

Sergey Bubka:

IOC EB Member, NOC of Ukraine President and Olympic champion Sergey Bubka commented on the recent Olympic events and forums in Lausanne and spoke about IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievements Awards.

These days in Lausanne, there has been a number of important events in the world Olympic movement.

Acknowledging the exceptional role of coaches in an athlete’s life, the IOC’s first-ever, Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to retired Japanese synchronized swimming coach Kaneko Masako and retired American swimming coach Jon Urbanchek.

IOC President Thomas Bach and IOC Athletes’ Entourage Commission Sergey Bubka presented the awards.   

This Award, given to one female and one male retired coach, is an initiative of the IOC Athletes' Entourage Commission to raise awareness about the athletes’ entourage and recognize the important role coaches play in supporting athletes on the road to their sporting dreams. 

Sergey Bubka said: "The role of a coach for an athlete goes beyond the field. It is about a journey and long-term collaboration. It is a great pleasure to honour the first two winners of the IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards for their outstanding contributions to Olympians’ live and the Olympic Movement."

For the first time joint meeting of two key IOC commissions - the Athletes Commission and the IOC Athletes’ Entourage Commission eas held. Entourage Commission deals with issues related to athletes' relationships with their entourage - the athlete's environment, which has an impact on the athlete and his training - managers, agents, trainers, medical staff, academics, sports organizations, sponsors, lawyers, as well as anyone who has an impact on the athlete's career, including his family members.

The Olympic capital of Lausanne also hosted the 8th International Athletic Forum, during which Sergey Bubka shared with the forum delegates his thoughts on the role of athletes in making strategic decisions on sport development, integration into social life and obtaining a profession after an active career, the importance of obtaining proper education, etc.
