IOC President visits Ukrainian Olympic House

On 1 July IOC President Jacques Rogge visited Kyiv and met Olympic Family of Ukraine in the newly-opened Ukrainian Olympic House – home of the Ukrainian NOC. “This is my 5th visit to Ukraine and 3rd visit as IOC President, - reminded Jacques Rogge, - I’ve been a witness to different phases of development of the Olympic movement in Ukraine.

But every visit was a pleasure. I already had an opportunity to feel the atmosphere of Kyiv as the EURO 2012 Host city and this is fantastic. Ukraine has always played an important role in International Olympic movement. Achievements of your athletes are impressing as well as activities of your NOC. We will be happy to see your country’s bid to host Winter Olympic Games 2022”, - said IOC President.
Sergey Bubka mentioned 60 years of Ukrainian Olympic experience with 603 Olympic medals won. NOC President thanked Jacques Rogge and honorable guests for their visit which acknowledges that Ukraine is among highly recognized sports countries.
Guests made a tour of the Olympic House, had a conversation with Olympic champions Nina Bocharova (artistic gymnastics) and Olexandr Volkov (basketball), Olympic prizewinners Nina Umanets’ (rowing), Victoria Tereshchuk (modern pentathlon), Anna Sorokina (diving), Olena Pakholchik (sailing), Olena Govorova (athletics), members of the Executive Board of the NOC and watched a short video with highlights of Ukrainian participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.
