12 July, Kyiv – National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, together with its general partner Bosco, today unveiled Ukraine’s new look for the London 2012 Olympic Games at the opening ceremony of the Bosco Official Olympic Outfitting Centre.
Ukraine's striking blue-and-yellow kits embody the country's rich culture and national pride. The ceremonial outfits, comprising bell-bottomed trousers, colourful shirts, wide lapels and fringed bags, are a homage to early '70s styles to reflect today's freedom-loving Ukraine. Bosco has selected the ear of wheat as the Ornament - or recurring motif – for the Ukraine kit, the traditional national symbol recreated in an avant-garde design. The 42-piece collection seeks to evoke the country's mix of modernity and traditionalism.
Sergey Bubka, President of the NOC of Ukraine, commented on the design:
"It is important that clothing is comfortable, that once you put it on you feel proud, and that, in the end, everyone pays attention! Our outfit for the London Games turned out to be very colorful, in the spirit and style of our flag and our cultural traditions. Bosco's designers really looked at our national cultural identity and the choice of the symbol embodies all that we are proud of. They were looking for patterns and colors to best convey the idiosyncrasies and the spirit of Ukraine.
"And they succeeded! Every victory will leave an image in the memory. That is an essential part of the victory – the way you stand, the way you look, what clothes you are wearing. I am very pleased that during every Olympic Games the press mentions the Ukrainian team as one of the most stylish. This is a rare honor for a team! Everyone notes that the uniform of our athletes is one of the most bright and memorable. I am convinced that our fans will like it as well and they will support our team in a bright and beautiful way."
Designers say that ceremonial outfit was inspired by the music of the legendary British band "The Beatles" and has look like outfits had in early 70-s.
Mikhail Kusnirovich, the Head of Bosco, said:
"I am so delighted that the Ukrainian Olympic team will compete wearing Bosco this summer once again. Bosco truly treasures Ukraine: it is a fantastic country, and it is the first country outside of Russia that really opened their hearts to our designs. There is always a challenge in creating an Olympic kit to unite not just 500-plus members of an Olympic delegation, but also millions of fans back home. That is why Bosco makes every nation's design personal – we have ensured that these designs for London are quintessentially Ukrainian.
"The kit is vital to an athlete's success. It must aid performance, and it gives athletes a true sense of identity when they compete. It reminds them of the part that they play in Olympic history, and the history of their nation. "
In the next few days all members of the official delegation will try this new outfit on.
At the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 Ukrainian Olympians were wearing BOSCO outfit for the first time. Since then NOC of Ukraine and well-known brand are cooperating fruitfully.
In the framework of the partnership agreement, which is valid till 2017, BOSCO provides Ukraine's Delegations with free high quality outfits and equipment at the Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games and European Youth Olympic Festivals (both summer and winter ones) and also provides additional funds to support trainings of the athletes and to promote Olympic values.
