Sergey Bubka met leadership of the Special Olympics

President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Sergey Bubka met with the Special Olympics: President of Special Olympics Europe / Eurasia Mary Davis and General Manager Mirek Krogulek and President of Special Olympics Ukraine Sergey Komisarenko.

Special Olympics takes care of organizing and conducting athletic training and competition on the list of Olympic sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities to develop physically through sports.

In 1988 Juan Antonio Samaranch as the President of International Olympic Committee signed an agreement on cooperation with the Special Olympics and recognized this movement as a partner and gave assurance of their support.

Since 2006, the NOC of Ukraine within the framework of the cooperation agreement supports the Special Olympics Ukraine.

As noted at the meeting Sergey Bubka, the National Olympic Committee pays great attention to social projects and programs. In particular, NOC helps children's oncology department in frames of the memorandum with the National Cancer Institute. Also NOC supports orphanages and boarding schools - each regional Olympic branch has such an institution.

"We should strive to make this life better. It is not a question of finance, it's a question of attitude. Sport has great power and ability to bring people together, give joy. I have seen training and competition of such athletes of Special Olympics. In addition, I participated in the awards ceremony of similar events. I am confident that together we can change the attitude of society to these people for the better. People with disabilities should not feel isolated and deprived of public attention, "- said the President of the NOC.

Respected guests thanked the National Olympic Committee, headed by Sergey Bubka for their continued support and encouragement, expressed confidence in further fruitful cooperation.
