Sergey Bubka, Ukraine NOC President, visited Uzbek capital Tashkent to take part in the ceremony of laying symbolic foundation stone to the future new NOC office building as well as new athletics complex.
Bubka met Uzbek NOC President Mr Mirabror Usmanov and local athletes and coaches, and participated at the ceremony near the famous Pakhtakor Stadium where construction is under way. Sergey Bubka commented, 'I have very nice memories of this place from year 1982 when I won silver medal at the USSR Athletics Championship here. I was only 18 at that time being very proud of myself'.
Sergey Bubka, who is also IOC Executive Board member and IAAF Vice President, met Uzbek Athletics Federation President and country's Vice Prime Minister Mr Gulamjon Ibragimov. Cooperation between NOCs of Ukraine and Uzbekistan was discussed, as well as local administrators' efforts to promote athletics in the country. Sergey Bubka who chairs the IAAF Development Commission praised the construction of the new athletics venue in Tashkent saying it would be a crucial for the progress of sport in the region.
