The Greco-Roman wrestler Zhan Beleniuk is recognized as the best athlete in April by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. His coaches Vitaliy Kyselytsa and Oleksiy Dobrovolskiy became the best ones of the second spring month.
23-years-old athlete from Kyiv earned this title thanks to his brilliant performance at the European Wrestling Championship held in Vantaa (Finland). He won the highest quality medal at the prestigious tournament. Zhan has successfully made his way to the finals by defeating the Olympic champion from Russia Alexei Mishin in the semifinals. Ukrainian athlete won the gold award in the extremely complicated match, where he met with the Finnish wrestler Rami Hietaniemi. Beleniuk got a serious injury, but he stood up till the end, giving no chance to the opponent.
Ukrainian team returned from the European Championship with 8 medals: "gold", "silver" and 6 bronze medals.
It was the second time for Zhan to take place on the podium of the Old World. In 2012 the wrestler won a bronze medal at the European Championship in Belgrade (Serbia).
He wins the title of the best athlete of the month in Ukraine for the first time.
