12 years passed since outstanding Ukrainian football manager Valery Lobanovsky passed away. Lobanovsky’s family members as well as number of his friends, colleagues, young and former players and fans gathered on Tuesday, May 13, at the Baykove cemetery in Kyiv and near the monument at the Dynamo stadium in Kyiv to pay the tribute to the most successful Ukrainian football manager ever.
Sergey Bubka, National Olympic Committee President, took part in the ceremony on behalf of the Olympic family of Ukraine.
Bubka said, ‘Valery Lobanovsky was a unique personality and illustrious coach who was far ahead of his time. We remember fantastic win of the USSR and Ukraine national teams managed by Mr Lobanovsky as well as triumphs of FC Dynamo Kyiv at the European and national levels. Valery Lobanovsky was also an outstanding mentor who brought up generations of star players including Olympic medalists and ‘Ballon d’Or’ winners as well as generation of accomplished coaches.
