National Olympic Committee raises additional funds of US$300,000 from the IOC for Ukrainian athletes

The Ukraine National Olympic Committee has today received a positive letter from IOC President Mr Thomas Bach, at Sergey Bubka’s request, to provide financial aid for the Ukraine national team’s participation in international competitions and training camps.

The sum of the special tranche comes to US$ 300,000. 

Sergey Bubka, President of the Ukraine NOC, commented: “We are trying to do everything possible to ensure our athletes’ full participation in major international events as well as at training camps. We appreciate the difficult situation in Ukraine and are combining our efforts to help the athletes to perform and promote our country all over the world.”

Bubka also confirmed that funds raised from the IOC would be used to ensure the participation of national teams in major international competitions, as well as for targeted support for the athletes who experience difficulties and for the grants to support athletes’ preparation through national Olympic federations.

The conditions and procedure of the IOC aid’s distribution will be decided in the short term by the NOC, Ukrainian Ministry of Sport and Youth and national federations.

Sergey Bubka added: “On behalf of the Ukraine Olympic Family, I would like to express my gratitude to the international Olympic Committee and personally to the President Mr Thomas Bach for his understanding and support. We know that he appreciates the achievements of our athletes, the deep concerns about the situation in Ukraine and the desire to see a peaceful settlement. For us the support of the IOC is a great example of the Olympic solidarity.”
