LEGACY OF 2010 YOUTH OLYMPIC WORKS NOW IN SINGAPORE

Sergey Bubka visited National Games’ Athletics competitions in Singapore.

Raising memories of the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games Sergey Bubka, an IAAF Vice President, attended Singapore to take part in the Singapore Athletics Association (SEA) summit. He also visited the Kallang Practice Track in Singapore where National Games’ Athletics competitions took place.

The track is a National Training Center and a home of national athletics team revamped earlier this year due to the joint efforts of stakeholders including SEA and its President Tang Weng Fei. The sport of athletics experiences significant growth in Singapore recently inspired by the success of the 2010 Youth Olympics.

Sergey Bubka who chaired IOC Coordination Commission before the inaugural YOG surveyed the track watching the competitions and later taking part in the award ceremony for the National Games’ winners.

Bubka commented on his stay in Singapore, saying, «It was so nice to remember the amazing August days of 2010 here in Singapore. YOG was a fantastic celebration of the Olympic spirit, of the sport future of our planet. The performance of young Ukrainian Olympians who won 35 medals in Singapore and took 3rd place among more than 200 participating countries was also fantastic. Glad to see that the legacy of the 2010 YOG works here in the city. Sport is in the minds of the local people – they truly live with YOG DNA».
