Olympic Day Run In Ukraine

On 23 June 2007 the whole Ukraine united in the name of consolidation of the traditions of peace and concord. It is on this day – the day of the International Olympic Committee’s foundation – the Olympic Day Run is traditionally held all over the world.

And our country was among others countries that were active in celebration of the Olympic values.
The main organizers of the All-Ukrainian events dedicated to the Olympic Day Run were the National Olympic Committee, the Ministry for Family Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ukrainian Athletics Federation, Sport For All Center and Invasport Center, McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd., the Charitable Fund “Development of Ukraine”, Bonacqua and TV Channel “Megasport”.
Hundred thousands of people in regional centers, towns, villages, children centers, educational establishments of Ukraine took part in sports and cultural events dedicated to the Olympic Day Run.
Khreshchatik, a central Kyiv street, was the main place of festivities in the Ukrainian capital for thousands of residents and guests of Kyiv.
President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Mr. Sergiy Bubka, Minister of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sport Mr. Viktor Korzh, Depury Head of Kyiv City State Administration Mr. Vitaliy Zhuravskyy, General Director of McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd Mr. Igor Dyelov, representative of charitable foundation “Development of Ukraine" Mr. Andriy Budyak, Olympic champions, members of Ukrainian Sport Academy, active athletes, Olympic hopes, veterans of sport came to greet the Run participants.
Sergiy Bubka, Oleksandr Volkov, Iryna Merleni, Daria Zgoba, Iryna Krasnyanska, Alina Kozich, Olga Shcherbatykh, Taras Danko and many others started the Run together with children.
Presentation of the mascots of Ukrainian National Olympic Team, 2 wonderful storks, created a real furore. These mascots will support and inspire our athletes in Beijing.
”Olympic Day Run is a great celebration of sport that unites people irrespective of their age, sex, political and religious creed. The Run proved to be a real success and every participant could feel himself like an Olympian. Moreover, all the runners were the winners because they joined healthy life-style and proved the necessity of going in for physical culture and sport”, Mr. Sergiy Bubka said after the Run.
