Biathlete Khrystyna Dmytrenko wins historical gold medal of Winter Youth Olympics for Ukraine

Biathlete Khrystyna Dmytrenko made Ukrainian fans’ day with awesome win at the Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway.

The girl started from fourth place in pursuit race after Sunday sprint and claimed gold medal.

After crossing the finish line, the newly crowned Champion shared her emotions.

"First, I could not even think I could win. It wasn't until the home stretch when I believed in my success", says Khrystyna, "I missed twice in first prone shooting but maybe for good because it made me concentrate and go through three more shootings without a miss"

"I set my entire mind on this win. The fourth position in yesterday sprint gained me confidence for today competition. I was eager to prove everyone and myself that I am worth of more. I'm so happy", the Champion added.

The President of Ukraine National Olympic Committee Sergey Bubka, who cheered the Ukrainian athlete on the stands, was the first one to compliment the newly crowned Champion, the coaches' team and Biathlon Federation of Ukraine headed by its president Volodymyr Brynzak.

Bubka thanked them for fantastic performance and wished good luck to the whole Ukrainian team in Lillehammer.

The moment of history was the first ever Youth Olympic gold medal for Ukraine.

Ukrainian team won three silver medals at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, in 2012.
