Mrs Nina Umanets, 1980 Olympics’ silver medalist rower and Ukraine NOC Executive Board member, is appointed as Olympic team’s Chef de Mission for the Games of XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August 2016.

Mrs Anna Sorokina, 2000 bronze medalist in diving and head of NOC Development department, was designated as Chef de Mission deputy for Rio Games.

The appointments were made on Friday, March 25th at the NOC Executive Board meeting under the guidance of Sergey Bubka.

Mrs Umanets will serve her fifth Games in a row as Ukraine's Chef de mission while Mrs Sorokina, who assisted Nina at two previous Olympics, has also good experience as Chef de Mission at the Youth Olympics and European Youth Olympic Festivals.

124 athletes from Ukraine have already qualified for the Rio Games. 

The qualification is underway now, and the final team list would be completed and announced by the end of July 2016 based on qualification results and NF proposals.

Rio 2016 Olympics will take place from August 5th to August 21st. More than 10500 athletes from 206 NOCs will compete in 42 sporets and 306 medal events.
