Experts of the Monitoring group of the Council of Europe met represantatives of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee at the organization’s HQ in Kyiv.
Group, including Cyprus Anti-doping Authority President Michael Petrou, Legal Director and EB member of Germany's National Anti-Doping Agency Lars Mortsiefer, Sweden's Doping Control Laboratory Director Dr Magnus Ericsson, Anti-Doping Norway's Director Anne Capelen, Head of Sport Conventions Division Directorate General II – Democracy of the Council of Europe Sergey Khrivchikov and organization's program manager Maryam Gafar-Zada, discussed anti-doping policy in Ukraine and the implementation Anti-Doping convention with NOC Vice-President and IOC member Valery Borzov and his colleagues.
Borzov assured the experts that Ukraine's Olympic family is aware of how fundamental doping problem is for he global sport, saying, 'Ukraine's NOC cooperates with nation's government to apply all possible measures to fight against doping НОК України. NOC contributes to the adoption of antidoping laws, as well as to signing agreements with every national Olympic sport federation and every Olympic athlete on avoiding usage of forbidden substances. NOC also organises national seminars and delegates athletes' representatives, coaches, physicians and scientists to international antidoping seminars, as well as provides full updates on antidoping rules based on Olympic Charter, WADA Code, IOC Ethical Commission and Medical Commission'.
Borzov also informed that NOC provides funding for antidoping programs and testing.
CE Monitoring group' experts met NOC Athletes' Commission featuring Olympic and Paralympic medalists Olena Hovorova, Commission's Chair, Yuri Cheban, Andriy Deryzemlya, Iryna Merleni, Olha Saladukha and Olena Akopyan. The role of Commission for implementation of antidoping policy for the athletes and their entourage was in the center if discussion.
Monitoring group experts will make a report and recommendations based on its visit.
