National Olympic Committee of Ukraine has nominated Oleg Verniaiev, Rio 2016 gold and silver medalist in artistic gymnastics, as country’s best Olympic athlete in August 2016. Verniaiev’s coach Hennady Sartynsky will receive award as Coach of the month.

Verniaiev became team Ukraine's most successful athlete at the Games of XXXI Olympiad in Rio, winning silver medal in the individual all-around competition, later adding gold medal at the parallel bars. Verniaiev's all-around medal is the first one in this discipline for Ukraine since Sydney 2000 where late Oleksandr Beresh won bronze medal.

Oleg and his coach will receive there career's eighth awards as country's Best athlete and Best coach of the month.
