On 3 October 2006 the President of the International Olympic Committee Dr Jacques Rogge, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mr. Viktor Yanukovych and the NOC of Ukraine President Mr.

Sergey Bubka paid official visit to Donetsk. They were welcomed by the governor of Donetsk region Mr. Volodymyr Logvynenko, Deputy Head of Regional Administration Mr. Igor Koval and City Mayor Mr. Oleksandr Luk’yanenko.

Upon arrival and welcome meeting at the airport honorary guests visited sport complex “Olimpiyskyy”. In front of the stadium the students of the Higher Specialized School of the Olympic Reserve named after Sergey Bubka, School of Sports Skills, representatives of sport community and mass media greeted Dr Jacques Rogge, Mr. Viktor Yanukovych and Mr. Sergey Bubka. At the entrance of sport complex “Olimpiyskyy” the Head of the Department on Physical Culture and Sport of Donetsk Regional State Administration Mr. Viktor Kirbaba, Olympic champions and medal winners Nina Zyuskova, Vyacheslav Lyugaylo and Viktor Zvyagintsev welcomed the guests. The visit to sport complex was finishes with press conference.

Dr Rogge visited the monument to Sergey Bubka. He was favourably impressed by the fact that outstanding athletes are highly respected in their homeland.

On behalf of football club “Shakhtar” its General Director Mr. Sergiy Palkin presented Dr Rogge with a T-shirt in football club’s colours with IOC President’s name.
