Sergey Bubka, Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee President, has signed the official letter accepting the invitation from the IOC for Team Ukraine to take part in XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, Korea.

The signing held at the NOC Executive Board meeting in Kyiv in the presence of Minister of Sport and Youth Ihor Zhdanov has become a formal confirmation of Ukraine to participate at the Games on February 2018.

The International Olympic Committee holds a tradition of sending formal letters of invitation for the Games to every NOC.

Sergey Bubka spoke to national media about Team Ukraine’s preparation saying, ‘Less than a year left until the Opening of the 2018 Winter Games, and the priority for everyone involved in athletes’ preparation is to consolidate efforts in order to provide the best possible opportunities for every future Olympian.

The funding and organization of the preparation process is a responsibility of the Ministry of sport and national sport federations, but the National Olympic Committee is always here to support athletes and teams’.

Bubka reminded that the NOC pays out grants for 26 athletes of the future 2018 Olympic team between November 2016 and February 2018.

The NOC Executive Board voted new Ukraine’s Chef de Mission for PyeongChang 2018 - Mrs Anna Sorokina, 2000 Olympic medallist in diving, Head of NOC Olympic Development Department.

Anna Sorokina served as Ukraine’s deputy Chef de Mission at three previous Games (2012, 2014, 2016). She was also Chef de Mission at all four editions of Youth Olympics (2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016), as well as at five EYOF editions and at the first European Games (in 2015 in Baku).

The hosts expect athletes from 95 NOCs to compete at the Games in 7 winter sports (15 disciplines).

The qualification for the Games is under way until January 15, 2018, with January 28^th is a deadline for the final entries.
