IOC President Jacques Rogge had a meeting with President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko

The participants of the meeting among whom there was the NOC of Ukraine Sergey Bubka, discussed an issue of cooperation between the International Olympic Committee and the NOC of Ukraine. The President of Ukraine addressed the IOC President a request “to consider Ukraine as a permanent partner in the matter of supporting the IOC initiatives”.
From his part Mr. Jacques Rogge assured that the organization, chaired by him, would support the Olympic Movement in Ukraine.The problem of winter sports development in Ukraine and a necessity of creation an appropriate infrastructure, in particularly a valid Winter Sports Palace in Kyiv, were also raised by the participants.
The participants also discussed perspectives of holding the 2012 European Football Cup Finals in Ukraine and Poland. Viktor Yushchenko emphasized that Ukraine’s host of the prestigious football championship is significant not only from the sports standpoint but from political one as well, as it complied with Ukraine’s endeavors of European integration. “We will pleased to undertake staging of such important sports event”, the President of Ukraine said.
The Head of the State awarded the IOC President Jacques Rogge with the Yaroslav the Wise Order (III).
The NOC President Sergey Bubka thanked Viktor Yushchenko and Jacques Rogge for their support of the Olympic Movement in Ukraine.
