The first medal of the biathlon season for the Ukrainian national team was won by the women's team captain Olena Pidhrushna.
Women's sprint had plenty of surprises, mostly because of the mistakes of world biathlon leaders.
However, it did not apply to Tora Berger of Norway who got the second win in a row in Ostersund despite of one miss.
Olena finished with one failed shot and 16.9 second delay and won "silver" in this race.
Russian biathlete Olga Viluhina got the "bronze".
Another surprise was 22-year-old Juliia Dzhima from Kiev, who managed to cover all the targets and took 13th place, thus secured her place in pursuit race.
Two more Ukrainians – sisters Vita and Valya Semerenko – made the top 30 best athletes, who respectively took the 27th and 28th positions.
President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Sergey Bubka congratulated Olena Pidhrushna and the whole Ukrainian team on winning the "silver" and wished everyone further accuracy and sport luck in next races.
