Sergey Bubka visited Arab countries

The President of the NOC of Ukraine, IOC Executive Board Member, IAAF Vice-President Sergey Bubka visited a number of Arab countries.

After his participation in the Special Awards ceremony in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the NOC of Ukraine was honored the prestigious international Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award in the nomination "International Sports Foundation achieved Success based on Values", Sergey Bubka visited Oman and Qatar. As a result of these visits, the agreements about signing memorandums on cooperation between the counties' Olympic Committees were achieved.

Sergey Bubka held a meeting with the Oman Olympic Committee Chairman Mr. Habib Macki, the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Crown Prince of Qatar H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the chairmen of national sport federations, notably the President of Qatar Association of Athletics Federation Dahlan Juman Al-Hamad, during which he discussed the issues of Olympic movement development and shared Ukrainian experience by presenting unique Olympic projects.

"Ukraine has a rich sport history. I think that strengthening the cooperation will allow Oman and Qatar use our experience and knowledge for the development of Olympic Movement", - stressed Sergey Bubka. "In terms of cooperation we will consider the interaction of the national sport federations, the conduct of seminars for specialists for the purpose of experience exchange, holding of training camps in different sports on the territory of our countries."

The President of the Oman Olympic Committee Mr. Habib Macki pointed out that Ukraine will also benefit from this cooperation having the opportunity to organize the training camps for the athletes in comfort climate conditions in Oman especially in cold winter time.

Speaking in general about sport development in Arab world, Sergey Bubka stressed that the government of countries and sport organizations pay a lot of attention to the popularization of healthy lifestyle. The President of the NOC of Ukraine noted the sport base in Qatar with outstanding conditions for sport. A striking example is a unique complex of sport venues for different sports on Aspire Academy base. Another matter mentioned was the great amount of courts for physical training on the place of residence.

"An excellent infrastructure has been created, above all, for the sake of raising a healthy nation. In early February Qatar celebrates the Sports Day – it is a full-fledged holiday, a day off. During the year the country hosts 38 international high-level competitions, considering their possible plans for the preparation to the bid to host Olympic Games-2024 ", - Sergey Bubka shared his impressions.

Oman Olympic Committee was recognized by International Olympic Committee in 1982.

For the first time Oman athletes took part in Olympic Games-1984 in Los Angeles.

In Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Oman was represented by four athletes.

First woman to represent Oman at the Olympics was runner Butayna Eid al-Yacoub, who participated in Beijing-2008.

Olympic Committee of Qatar was created in 1979 year, and recognized by International Olympic Committee in 1980.

For the first time Qatar took part on the 1976 Olympic Games in the Canadian Montreal. That time country was represented by official persons only.

In Los Angeles 1984 it was the start of Qatar' Olympians participation.

The athletes of Qatar won 4 bronze medals.
