The NOC of Ukraine President Sergey Bubka gave his comments on the performance results of the young Olympians at the XI Winter European Youth Olympic Festival, which recently came to an end in the Romanian Brasov.
"This is the best performance of young Ukrainian Olympians at the winter Festivals since gaining our independence. It's pleasing to know that we have promising youth and reliable sports reserve"- stated Sergey Bubka.
"After the successful performance of the national team at the Biathlon World Championship we see that there are people who can pick up the baton and continue the glorious traditions. I'm glad that there is a prospect in figure skating, where the first gold Olympic medal of independent Ukraine was brought. I believe that these young athletes will soon compete for the podiums of world's most prestigious competitions, including the Olympics. This is particularly important in view of Ukraine's aspiration to host the Olympic Winter Games in 2022. On its part, the National Olympic Committee will support the young Olympians. Traditionally, we set monthly scholarships for the winners of the Festivals and their coaches. At this stage they desperately need such support", - emphasized the NOC President.
To remind at the XI European Youth Olympic Winter Festival our young Olympians won the complete set of medals. "Gold" is in the asset of biathletes in the mixed relay - Anastasia Merkushyna, Anastasia Nychyporenko, Anton Myhda and Maxym Ivko, "silver" is at the account of figure skater Yaroslav Paniot, and the "bronze" was won by biathlete Anastasia Merkushyna in sprint.
In the unofficial team event Ukraine is on the 10th place among 45 participating countries.
