SERGEY BUBKA TOOK PART AT THE 32TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE OLYMPIC COUNCIL OF ASIA

On Friday, January 17, 32th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia started in Manila, Philippines. Sergey Bubka takes part in this gathering as an IOC Executive Board member and IAAF Vice President among other more than 500 guests.

During two-days meeting the organizers of several upcoming multisport events in Asia plan to showcase their preparations and competition programmes to the NOCs' representatives and international guests. OCA also plans to address problems within the NOCs of India, Iran and Pakistan regarding to the governance of these institutions.

Before the meeting started, Sergey Bubka thanked to Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah, OCA long time President, for the invitation and for his continuous work for promotion of the Olympic Movement and Olympic values across Asia.

Bubka said, 'It is a great pleasure to come here to Manila to take part in the OCA General Assembly and the 100th Anniversary Celebration of sport in Asia. I would also like to express my support to the people of Phlippines who courageously overcome the aftermath of the Typhoon Haiyan.

Bubka added, 'I'm really looking forward to meet and discuss with my friends and colleagues from IOC, OCA and Asian NOC's. The organization of the Assembly itself is fantastic! Due the efforts of the Olympic Council of Asia and other institutions Asia has become sport crazy part of the world in the recent decades. The progress of promotion of our Movement is apparent and huge in most regions. I'm impressed by the number of multisport events held in Asia. Asian Games in Korea, and Asian Beach Games in Thailand in 2014, Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan, Asian Youth Games in Sri Lanka, in 2017 – these events seem to become great preparation for two Olympic Games which Asian countries will host – Winter Games in 2018 in PyeongChang, Korea, and Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan'.

Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly will work on January 17th and 18th in Philippine International Convention Center in Manila.
