On 7 December 2007 at its ХХІ General Assembly the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine summarized the activities conducted during the year and set priority tasks for the year of the Olympic Games 2008. Reporting to the Assembly the NOC of Ukraine President Mr.

Sergey Bubka emphasized that along with traditional projects a number of new ones was realized.
Such events as Olympic Day Run and All-Ukrainian Olympic Lesson got a new scope and even a new meaning. About 500 000 participants, inhabitants of cities, towns and villages of all regions of Ukraine took part in the Olympic Day Run. The All-Ukrainian Olympic Lesson “Join the Olympians” was a real celebration for sport admirers and involved over 2,5 million children of Ukrainian schools. Different competitions, tournaments and other events were held within the frame of the Olympic Week.
Every month the NOC of Ukraine determined the best athletes and coaches who were invited to the ceremony ”Heroes of Sports Year”. Legends of the national sport, young talented athletes and Olympic family of Ukraine gathered together for the celebration. Newly established Ukrainian Academy of Sport consisting of the legendary athletes selected the winners in each nomination.
A number of contests aiming at Olympic movement popularization was held together with the Olympic Academy of Ukraine, NOC sponsors and partners. Thanks to one of these contests there appeared the mascots of the Ukrainian Olympic Team, two wonderful storks.
A lot of children took part in the contests for the best Olympic drawing, composition and in the quiz “Expert of Olympism”.
Beyond any doubt, the abovementioned activity became feasible only owing to the joint efforts of the entities of the Olympic movement. On its part the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine closely supported, including allocation of financial assistance, the activity of the national federations, regional divisions and sports societies.
Within the framework of the NOC programme aiming at the support of the sports federations much attention was paid to the advanced training of coaches, experts, doctors and scientists by means of their participation in different workshops and seminars.
The activity of the regional divisions of the NOC of Ukraine had reached a new professional level. This year, as a new initiative, three meetings for the divisions were organized in Lviv, Zaporizhzhya and Kirovograd which improved the effectiveness of cooperation between the divisions.
A number of events was held by the NOC of Ukraine together with the sports societies and this activity is planned to be continued in 2008.
Much attention is paid by the NOC to educational and scientific aspects. In close collaboration with the Ukrainian Olympic Academy and higher educational establishments about 250 000 copies of Olympic literature including literary works, learner's guides and workbooks in different sports were published. About 80 scientific and practical seminars and conferences were held with the assistance of the National Olympic Committee. To improve this cooperation the NOC is going to develop and implement the programme, standards and criteria for the support of sports educational establishments.
