Successful performance of our shooting team at the European Championship in Moscow was the biggest sporting achievement of Ukrainian sport in March.
Our shooters won 15 medals at the continental championship (6 gold, 8 silver and 1 bronze), which allowed them to win the team competition and take first places in the team standings among adults and juniors.
The main hero of the Championship was Oleg Tsarkov, who won the air rifle shooting, setting the Ukrainian and European records.
"This gold medal is the first "gold" of independent Ukraine in air rifle among men and it is the biggest success in Oleg's career. I believe that it is just the beginning, and with perseverance and hard work it is real to achieve the goal. It was shown by Oleg, and he became the best athlete of March," said the President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Sergey Bubka awarding the sportsman with diplomas, statuettes and cash rewards.
In his turn, the best athlete of March thanked Mr. Sergey Bubka for this award.
The main Ukrainian Olympian made special mention of the coach of Oleg Tsarkov - Lesya Leskiv, who also continues to compete as an athlete. She has many sports achievements: multiple world and European champion, winner of the World Cup, participant of the Olympic Games.
"Of course, such rich experience helps in coaching. It certainly assisted the sportsman in achieving these high results," Sergey Bubka said.
"It is pleasant that our work is awarded. We have plans and dreams, and of course the main dream is participation in the Olympic Games. We will do everything to succeed," Lesya Leskiv said.
Also the President of the NOC of Ukraine thanked the President of the Ukrainian Shooting Federation Oleg Volkov and all specialists for professional and skilled work in preparing the athletes.
At the end of the awarding ceremony Sergey Bubka expressed the belief that the shots will occur only in sports arenas and Ukrainian athletes-shooters will praise the united, peaceful, undivided and prosperous Ukraine all over the world.
