NOC named Yuriy Cheban as Ukraine’s best athlete in August 2014

Ukraine National Olympic Committee named canoeist Yuriy Cheban as the country’s best athlete in August 2014. Cheban, bronze medal in Beijing 2008 at C1 500 m and gold medalist in London 2012 at the C1 200 m, won C1 200 m event at the 2014 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championship in Moscow. In the final race the Ukrainian outscored Russian Korovashkov by merely 0,006 of a second.

Yuriy added silver medal at the C1 200 m relay along with his teammates Vitaly Goliuk, Oleksandr Maksymchuk and Vadym Tsipan to his medal tally in Moscow.

Cheban's coach Vyacheslav Sorokin was named the best coach in August 2014.

Yuriy Cheban was previously nominated as the month's best athlete in Ukraine by the National Olympic Committee in August 2012 when he has won Olympic gold medal in London.
