Gymnast Oleh Vernyayev is named an ‘Athlete of the Month’ in October 2014 by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. Hennadiy Sartynskyi, Oleh’s coach, is honoured as the ‘Coach of the Month’.

The athlete-and-coach duo continuously produces amazing results throughout the season making their best at the major championships. Oleh Vernyayev found himself in the spotlight of Ukraine's sport in May when he won gold medal and two bronze medals at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. His breakthrough continued in October at the World Championships in Nanning, China, where 21-old from Donets'k won his first ever gold medal at the parallel bars.

The latest achievement of Mr Vernyayev and his coach is even more amazing considering the fact that it was the first gold medal won by Ukraine's male gymnast at the Worlds since Rustam Sharipov in 1996.

The 'Athlete of the Month' award from the Ukraine's NOC will become third for Oleh Vernyayev who was also honoured in November 2012 and recently in May 2014.
