About European Week of Sport

European Week of Sport takes place across Europe from 23 to 30 September.

This socially significant project was initiated by the European Commission and aims to promote sport and physical activity (#BeActive) in Europe and beyond.

Leading a healthy lifestyle, regardless of age, gender, background or fitness level, is the project’s main focus. Sport and physical activity significantly contribute to people’s health, and as the overall trend in physical activity levels is declining, the European Week of Sport is responding to this challenge and calling for joint action. European Week of Sport involves close cooperation with national coordinators and a wide range of partners who strongly support and contribute to the project’s implementation.

The European Week of Sport was launched in 2015. Ukraine was first granted the right to join one of the EU’s largest initiatives in the field of physical culture in 2018. Since 2019, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine has acted as the coordinator of the sporting event in Ukraine; together with the European Week of Sport ambassadors, it organises a variety of events which promote sport and encourage the public to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Every year, as part of the #BeActive campaign, around 100 events are organised across the country, aimed at promoting physical activity, a healthy lifestyle and encouraging different sections of the population to take part in sport. The total audience reach, taking into account participants in offline events, online activities and information dissemination statistics, amounts to around 200,000 people.

In 2026, the ambassadors for European Week of Sport will be: Mykhailo Kokhan, Oksana Livach, Taisiia Onofriichuk and Roman Svichkar.
