The Ukrainian National Olympic Committee will provide financial assistance of 100,000 hryvnia to the families of the deceased athletes

May 20th, 2026

At the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Ukraine paid tribute to the athletes, coaches and members of the sporting community who lost their lives as a result of the war.

The ‘Helmet of Remembrance’ belonging to skeleton racer Vladislav Geraskevich has become a symbol of this remembrance. It features portraits of athletes from different generations and sports: from decorated coaches to very young children who were just starting out in sport and dreaming of great victories.

The NOC of Ukraine, together with its partners, has decided to provide the families of the deceased with financial assistance of 100,000 UAH. Each of them will also be posthumously honoured with the NOC of Ukraine’s commemorative badge ‘Dedicated to the Angels of Sport’ — as a symbol of our eternal respect and deep gratitude.

We remember each of their names:
Yevhen Malyshev (biathlon), Dmytro Sharpar (figure skating), Pavlo Ishchenko (strongman), Maksym Galinichev (boxing), Andriy Kutsenko (cycling), Oleksii Loginov (ice hockey), Karina Bakhur (kickboxing), Mykyta Kozubenko (diving), Roman Polishchuk (athletics), Andrii Yaremko (Greco-Roman wrestling), Taras Shpuk (coach, Invictus Games), Fedir Yepifanov (fencing), Kateryna Troyan (athletics), Volodymyr Androshchuk (athletics), Oleksii Khabarov (shooting), Daria Kurdel (ballroom dancing), Ivan Kononenko (strongman), Alina Peregudova (weightlifting), Kateryna Dyachenko (rhythmic gymnastics), Viktoria Ivashko (judo), Maria Lebid (dance sport), Nazar Zuy (boxing, football).

They gave their lives for our freedom. It is our duty to speak of them, to honour their feat and to carry this memory into every future victory of a free Ukraine.

Eternal honour to the Angels of Sport. Glory to Ukraine!
