The road to LA28: the IOC has announced the four host cities for the Olympic Qualification Series

The International Olympic Committee has released details of the 2028 Olympic Qualification Series (Olympic Q-Series). This major event will be the decisive stage of selection for the Los Angeles Games across six sports.
Following a successful debut in 2024, the IOC decided to expand the series from two to four stages. The events will take the form of city festivals combining sport, music and youth culture.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry said:
“Our aim is to raise the profile of athletes and engage fans around the world through the dynamic ‘one series – four stops – six sports’ format.”
2028 stage calendar:
Stage 1: Tokyo, Japan (4–7 May) — the city where most of these sports made their Olympic debut at the 2020 Games.
Stage 2: Shanghai, China (11–14 May) — a return to the city where the series began in 2024.
Stage 3: Montreal, Canada (1–4 June) — the competition will be hosted by the historic 1976 Olympic Park.
Stage 4: Orlando, USA (8–11 June) — the final stage of the qualifiers on the US East Coast.
The series programme reflects the evolution of the Olympic Games and a focus on the interests of young people. The list of sports includes:
3x3 basketball
Beach volleyball
BMX Freestyle
Sport climbing
Flag football (new Olympic sport)
Skateboarding
The detailed programme for each city and ticket information will be announced later!
