Young rowers from the Poltava region marked Olympic Day with a competition

On 23 July, the rowing centre at the ‘Olympic Hopes’ Children’s and Youth Sports School hosted a vibrant ‘Olympic Day’ event, which brought together over fifty young rowers born between 2009 and 2014. The event was organised by the Poltava Regional Branch of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
During the opening ceremony, the participants were welcomed by Olena Kucherenko, Secretary of the Poltava Regional Branch of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. She thanked the coaches for their dedication, as Ukraine had recently celebrated Coach’s Day, and presented them with commemorative gifts from the regional branch.
The guest of honour at the event was Oleksandr Onyshchenko, President of the Ukrainian Canoe and Kayak Federation, who supported the athletes and thanked them for developing the Olympic movement in the region.
Before the races, everyone took part in an energetic Olympic warm-up led by cheerleaders, who energised the participants and put them in the right frame of mind for victory.
The young athletes competed in a 200-metre sprint, demonstrating their technique, strength, endurance and team spirit. The winners received certificates and medals, and every participant received a commemorative T-shirt.
